Characters and costumes

Costume: The prisoner is wearing a grey jumper, black jeans/leggings and white trainers. The full prisoner costume is not seen in the documentary as the shots including the prisoner are purely talking heads shots. I decided this because of my research into interview and crime style documentaries, they included mainly talking heads scenes of prisoners which I thought increased the tension and dramatic effect by the camera being close to the focus point (the prisoner) of the frame. In addition, this connects the audience with the storyline and prisoner more, as it expresses the prisoners raw emotions and thoughts through the shot. Representation: I chose to dress the character of the prisoner in a grey jumper because from researching into prisoner clothing, I found a lot of prisoners wear plain jumpers as the purpose of their clothing is to be dull and bland as they are stripped from their personality. My Documentary

Organising filming at HM Prison Bedford

Organising filming at Bedford Prison This is my letter to Bedford Prison asking permission to film on the premises, this involves explaining my media coursework and my reasons why I want to film there. This is the letter from school to Bedford Prison addressing my coursework and reasons why I have chosen to film there. As my deadline is not far away and I havn't got a response from the prison which may mean by the time they respond back it may be too late.  I have filmed at my other location; I think it was effective as it was authentic and ideal because it looked like a prison with an abandoned look to it. Also, it had metal bar gates surrounding the premises which were very similar to prison gates, the structures and colours of the building give the impression of a prison and there was a tall building which looked very similar to a watchtower.

Production update

Document what you have done and when as you film/edit supported with pictures/ screenshots/ snippets of footage. After filming the interview shots I have filmed the interview section shots at the weekend, I have 30 minutes worth of footage that I have edited down to 3 minutes. I am going to combine the extra shots I have edited out of my documentary into a blooper/extra film. I think the interview shots went well as we did them all within two days of filming. Also, the acting and dramatic effect I wanted to portray went as I wanted it to go. Before filming the locations shots: I am going to start filming the location shots this weekend, I have chosen to film at a old prison- looking place near me as Bedford prison still hasn't got back to me. In terms of what I am filming this weekend; I am going to film the whole building in a long shot, close ups, low angle and the surroundings e.g. the forestry area around it and the gates.
